I watched lately was Mirai, 未来 の未来 a Japanese anime.
At first glance, it seems like a simple story about a little boy named Kun struggling to adjust after the arrival of his baby sister. But beneath its charming animation and magical storytelling has something much deeper—a reflection on family, growth, and the countless small moments that shape our lives.
The way how film portrays childhood emotions is wordless. Kun isn’t always sweet or understanding. He gets jealous, frustrated, and angry, I feel the emotions. As a parent, it reminded me that children are not born knowing how to process big emotions. They learn through experience, patience, and love.

As I watched, I found myself thinking not only about Kun’s journey but also about my own family. The film beautifully shows the way how every family member express their own story. We often see people only through the roles they play in our lives—mother, father, sister, grandparent. Mirai paused myself and gently reminded me that before they became those things, they were children too. They had fears, dreams, struggles, and hopes of their own. Truly a life they created according to their own sweet will.
Have we ever thought about the that side of their lives?
One of the thoughts that stayed with me after the movie was how connected we are to the generations before us. We rarely stop to think about the choices, sacrifices, and experiences that brought us to where we are today. Watching Kun encounter family members from different points in time made me reflect on my own family history and how much of who I am has been shaped by people who came before me. This lesson of relationship is great.
As a busy mom, this movie felt especially meaningful.
Most days are filled with responsibilities, routines, and endless to-do lists. It’s easy to become so focused on getting through the day that we forget to pause and appreciate the small moments happening right in front of us. We worry about meals, schedules, work, school, and everything else that demands our attention.
Mirai reminded me that childhood is unfolding in those ordinary moments.
The tantrums, the messy house, exhausting days are all part of a much bigger story. One day, these moments will become memories. One day, our children will look back on their childhood through their own eyes and understand things they couldn’t understand when they were young.
I think that’s why films like Mirai are so valuable for parents. They encourage us to slow down for a moment. They remind us that family life isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection. It’s about being present enough to notice the small things that often seem insignificant but ultimately become the foundation of our children’s memories.

Visually, the film is warm and beautiful, but what truly makes it special is its heart. The magic in Mirai isn’t really about time travel or fantasy. It’s about empathy. It’s about learning to see the world through someone else’s eyes.
By the end of the movie, I felt grateful—not only for my family but also for the reminder that even the most ordinary days have meaning.
Mirai is a gentle, thoughtful film that encourages us to pause, reflect, and appreciate the people who shape our lives. For busy parents, especially mothers who often carry so much on their shoulders, it serves as a beautiful reminder that sometimes the most important moments are the ones we almost overlook.
