My Japanese Learning Journey

Japanese Learning

If you remember, I started sharing my Japanese language learning journey a few months ago. Here is another chapter of my learning journey

Recently, I started using a new learning trick. I began collecting and pasting the Japanese leaflets I received from time to time. In Japan, you find many leaflets everywhere—about offers, sales, announcements, and various services. I decided to use these papers for my language-learning purposes.

Here is how it works.

Why advertisements are useful for language learning

Advertisements use common words that are part of everyday life. Many ads repeat simple words and phrases, especially those related to food, drinks, cosmetics, and technology. Because these words appear frequently, they are easier to remember.

Learning only a set of vocabulary does not fully nourish my language skills, but advertisements teach me a lot about Japanese culture. Ads reflect daily life, social values, humour, and politeness. For example, they often use polite language and show respect for customers, which helps me understand how closely language and culture are connected.

Learning through advertisements is fun and motivating. They are entertaining and less intimidating than textbooks, which makes me feel more confident and interested in learning.

Above all, advertisements and leaflets are colorful and visually appealing, which makes the learning process more enjoyable.

In language learning, have you ever tried learning through advertisements and leaflets?
