My Language Learning Journey

If you remember, I started sharing my Japanese language learning journey a few months ago. Since then, life has been both difficult and beautifully interesting. My sweet boy just turned one, and every day he grows a little older—and a lot more active. With all his cheerful energy, sitting quietly with books and stationery is almost impossible. My one-year-old even thinks my notebooks are snacks! So, my Language learning Journey changed. Mom life.

But through this chaos, I’ve learned something important: language learning doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be part of our life.

So I began exploring different ways to learn Japanese while caring for this lively little bundle. Here’s what I’m doing now. And if you are learning a new language with a toddler around, I’d love to hear your methods too. For us, Japanese has become something we learn together—slowly, playfully, and in the heart of everyday life. My Language learning Journey.

Consistent Daily Exposure

My boy also needs to hear this new language, even if I’m not a perfect Japanese teacher (and I’m definitely not!). Honestly, I’m still a toddler in this language myself. But there are simple and effective things I can do.

My Language Learning Journey

Using Short, Simple Sentences Throughout the Day

During mealtime, bath time, diaper changes, or playtime, I use short Japanese words and phrases. Just small, simple sentences. Nothing fancy—just enough to let the language exist naturally in our home.

This approach keeps us both learning without pressure. It’s not about long study sessions; it’s about tiny moments of exposure that build up over time. Finally we are improving.

Our mornings are simple. While I make breakfast, I practice a few small Japanese words.
I’ll hold up my baby’s cup and say:

True that he doesn’t repeat them yet, but he watches my lips like they’re magic. Language learning becomes just another gentle part of our morning rhythm, like stretching or opening the windows.

In fact, it is always beginner mom and a curious toddler are exploring Japanese together. A real slow process.

My Language Learning Journey

Midday: Japanese Songs

After playtime, we listen to Japanese nursery rhymes. I do not allow him to watch videos , so we both listen only audios.

Sometimes he claps. Sometimes I clap. Basically we both are learning and enjoyning.

Afternoon: Picture Books & Pointing

We cuddle on the couch with the simplest board books I could find—bright pictures, big words, no pressure. I received a lots of picture books from my friend grandfather. Of course, books with vehicles, animals and lot more. He loves them load.

We’re both learning. Not perfectly. But beautifully.

Playtime: Language Through Fun

The secret? You don’t need lessons. You just need play.

He hears Japanese and I am practicing. The toys become our tiny teachers. In fact, what a wonderful learning process.

Evenings: Slow Words and Soft Moments

As bedtime comes, I whisper easy phrases: basically,

Oyasumi- Good night

Daijobu-It is ok

The Truth: You Don’t Need to Be Fluent

I used to be scared I’d teach him “wrong.” Now I realize: toddlers don’t need perfect—they need present.
We learn together. laugh, listen, also practice and grow.

And honestly? It feels special— certainly, like we’re sharing a secret world. After, all these as a result that we are upgrading day by day.
