A collection of simple pleasures

A collection of simple pleasures

Sometimes my camera gallery feels like a little diary. A kind of healing therapy as well a good sound moment for my me time

Not the big moments or carefully planned photographs, but the small things I happened to notice on an ordinary day — a glass of mango juice, a comforting cup of chai, a bag I stopped to admire, or a quiet house that somehow caught my eye. Looking through my recent photos, I found a collection of these little moments that made me smile.

Mango juice for a sunny day 🥭

It had been raining heavily for the past couple of days, but finally, the sun came out. It was one of those bright, beautiful days I prepared something cold and refreshing for my family. So I made myself a simple glass of mango juice at home. Nothing fancy — just the sweet, tropical taste of mango that always reminds me of home.

There is something about mango on a sunny day that feels almost like a little piece of Sri Lanka following me here to Japan.

An easy pizza kind of day

Some days call for cooking from scratch. And some days, I am perfectly happy to pick up an easy pizza from the grocery shop. This time my husband bought this little treat home.

Motherhood has taught me not to make every meal a project. Sometimes an easy dinner, a hungry toddler, and a quiet evening are more than enough. I have slowly learned that simple can be good too.

Masala chai from a little Nepal shop

We also came across a little Nepalese restaurant and had some masala chai and biriyani.

That first sip was warm, fragrant and comforting — the kind of drink that makes you want to sit down for a few extra minutes. I was bit unwell my throat was bit rough and this tasty and bit spicy masala chai was a comfort for my sick throat. (Read my sick days story here, if u love)

Living away from Sri Lanka, I find myself appreciating these little pockets of South Asian flavours even more. Sometimes food does not just fill your stomach. It brings back a feeling.

And then… biryani 🍚

Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying the biryani from the same restaurant. There are certain foods that don’t need much explanation. Biryani is one of them. The smell alone was enough to make the whole kitchen feel warmer.

A deserted house that caught my eye

One of my photos was simply of an old, deserted house. I don’t know what it was about it, but I stopped to look. Perhaps it was the quietness. The sense that someone once lived there, cooked there, opened those windows every morning and had their own little routines. I have always been drawn to old houses and the stories they seem to hold. Even an empty house can make you wonder about the life that once filled it.

And then, some beautiful bags

I also photographed a few bag designs I spotted while window shopping. I love looking at little details like these — the shape, the texture, the colours, the way something simple can be made beautiful. I don’t always buy the things I photograph. Sometimes I just like noticing them. And perhaps that is what I enjoy most about keeping a camera roll full of everyday things.

It reminds me that life isn’t only made up of the important days. Little things. But somehow, they become memories. And when I look back at them later, I realise they were never really just little things.

What beautiful things in your gallery right now?
