Birthday Gift Ideas for a One-Year-Old Baby

Birthday Gift Ideas.

Time flew by—Hithesh is already 1 year old! We celebrated his first birthday in our own special way. We’re not really “party people,” so we kept it simple: a cozy little family gathering, just the three of us.

I wanted to first share my experience choosing gifts for him.

I’m a bit old-school, and I’ve always wanted his first gift to be a book. Yes, he can’t understand words yet, but I wanted to give him a book experience. To me, a book is the best gift you can give a child. So we chose this book.

When shopping for books on Amazon, it’s disappointing that you can’t see the inside pages. I’m not sure—maybe it depends on the publishers. But if they can provide previews, it would be so helpful and absolutely worth it. Even two or three sample pages would help so much to understand the layout and style.

I love wandering through bookshops, touching the books, and carefully choosing what feels right. Sadly, here in rural Japan, it’s hard to find English books in physical stores because the shelves are mostly filled with Japanese books. So online shopping was our only option.

When the book finally arrived, I was truly delighted. It was even better than I expected—so colorful and eye-catching for toddlers. The flip-up pictures were adorable.

Where is the baby’s mouth?

It is behind the cup!!

I still remember his happy eyes when I handed him the book. The excitement and curiosity on his face were priceless. I couldn’t handle the adorableness!

This is really fun, with big doodles and flaps to lift. Even though he can’t read, he loves staring at the bright illustrations. I still remember his eyes lighting up the moment he touched the book. I highly recommend this one because it’s a flap book—perfect for toddlers who enjoy peek-a-boo style play. We open the flaps while making little sound effects, and he becomes even more curious and eager to explore what’s inside.

If you’re a mom of a toddler around 1 year old, I would wholeheartedly recommend this cute little book. It’s truly a game-changer.

Such toys are very helpful in developing motor skills, color recognition, problem-solving, logical thinking, hand–eye coordination, and even boosting confidence. Hithesh can’t manage it on his own yet, but I’m sure he soon will—especially because he’s already in love with these tiny, colorful shapes.

How about your Birthday Gift idea for 1 1-year-old baby?
