After my son was born in this friendly hospital, on the fourth day, I had my “postpartum celebratory meal.” Japanese hospitals request new Moms to be at the hospital almost a week after the delivery.
While in the hospital, you cannot have homemade foods. The zero homemade food policy is there to avoid possible food poisoning and allergies. (What a caring gesture) But my beloved husband brought a bundle of packed foods that leveled up my energy every time he came to the hospital.
I know. Anything after childbirth will taste heavenly. If you would love to see my postpartum food while in the hospital, have a look at this.
The celebratory meal I had was a traditional Japanese meal. To be honest, I did not expect such a feast at all. Full of surprise, I got pictures of all the side dishes and sent them to my husband. “Eat all, sweety,” my husband replied. Can a new mom have such a vast range? I was wondering. It was such a splendid dinner with a widespread, so I couldn’t capture everything in one photograph. Hahaha!!
The food presentation was so artistic. The presentation was at its best. Mine was a normal delivery, and my post-delivery situation was good in all senses, I did not want to keep on liquids and light foods. So I could have this memorable celebratory meal!!
The meal was with “wishes to the new mom,” and a sweet note said, “Take your time and have your meal.” They took my son to the nurses’ station and allowed me considerable time to finish the meal.
Here was what I got,
Rice with red beans, Salad, Sashimi, tempura, vinegared food, seaweed, meat dishes, fresh juice, and a dish of seasonal fruits.
See the beauty!! Each dish is attractive!! The small dishes are so lovely and they were carrying subsidiary articles of diet.
The Japanese rice is sticky, and the portion is amazingly small. My family was so surprised about the “portion”. When you have many side dishes, this amount of rice is more than enough.
Tempura is a lightly battered, deeply fried vegetable dish. The dish really blew my mind.
Star-marked mushrooms, finely cut carrots, and some kind of yam were in a liquid. I had no idea about the liquid, but It is so comforting! My delivery was in the winter; so these warm cozy portions comforted me surprisingly!
The amazing care received from the Japanese healthcare system absolutely revitalized me. The hospital deserves the biggest heartfelt shoutout. I can still close my eyes and taste the texture of each portion, and I will hold on to that sweet memory of a celebratory meal forever. It made everything extra special.
I am curious to know how your postpartum celebratory meal !!
