The Best Summer Moments

We are in the first half of autumn—perhaps the best time to reminisce about the wonderful summer moments of 2025.

How was your summer?

Our family went on a boat ride along the Sumida River, and it was such a beautiful experience. Our little Hithesh seemed to be the happiest of all. The ride lasted about 45 minutes, during which we passed nearly 15 grand bridges. The scenery outside was like a living work of art. The vast blue sky felt like paradise—who knew the sky could paint such stunning pictures? We were absolutely thrilled.

After the ride, we arrived at a gorgeous park. We strolled around, and when we grew tired, we rested in a shady spot where cool water droplets refreshed us. It was truly a special moment, one of the best I’ve ever experienced.

What a view!

This summer, my mini garden brought me extra joy. For the first time, I grew tomatoes, brinjals, chilies, strawberries, and some local greens words to explain.

We went on museum tours. It was my first time visiting a museum in Japan, and it was really enchanting and informative. For more details and snaps, click here.

We also had our village summer festival, called 夏祭り (Natsu Matsuri) in Japanese. It was held at night, with people singing and dancing joyfully. It was my first time experiencing such a festival—wow, the drums were huge! I loved the traditional Japanese drums; they brought so much energy and liveliness to the celebration. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.

I prepared some Sri Lankan traditional sweetmeats at my husband’s request. It was truly a proud and happy moment, as I realized I was doing a great job. I had never imagined that I would be able to accomplish something like this all on my own. In fact, different environments pave the way for us to grow stronger and more resilient.

Apart from all this, I was busy with our little soul, who is growing up so fast. It was hard to hold back my tears when he took his very first steps on this beloved earth. What an amazing and unforgettable memory for us as parents! His first steps, his babblings, his weaning—all happened so nicely and calmly this summer.

Even though I’m not a fan of the scorching sun, sunburns, or too much sweating, I truly fell in love with this summer because of the precious moments we shared with our baby boy.

Surely, as a family, we are deeply grateful for the summer we had.

How about your summer moments?
