Raise your voice for a “raise” !!

Relationship

When I was in my active career as a young Attorney, while in Sri Lanka I too was in two minds on this case. Is it ok to talk about Money, publicly? Will it create a bad image of myself? Will they judge me? Is it ungrateful to ask? Thousands of questions in a single moment.

Most of us think that asking for a raise is something bad. Now I say, “bullshit” We all work to feed our families, to make them happy. We are living in a society where money plays a great role. So, working without a single word of “money” is odd, and both parties are cheating.

The more you grow more you understand, that no one will stand up for your things if you are not ready to ask for them. There may be some with golden hearts, but you cannot expect it all the time. So you have to stand up for yourself.

You are earning for the company and your boss. The companies run all because of you. You are a great asset to your company always. In my short period carrier, I understood a few things,

Asking for a raise standing on your feet is always greater than talking behind the curtain.

Meantime you are entitled to ask for a raise every year, but not only for the “Raise” Ask for more projects, ask for more responsibilities, and do what you do at your level best. You are helping some top layers to live happily, so you are entitled to have a better portion. You need a great vacation after the hectic work. You are neither machine nor property. For all these you need money.

And it is not a fact for someone to judge you. If someone judges you for what you are asking on “perks and benefits” you have nothing done wrong but they are dealing with something bad. When I was talking about this with one of my friends she said, “The ones who are judging you with such silly nonsense are toxic, handle them with extra care” Golden words all the time.

I believe that personal money matters is out of the “raise” issue. All you touch is what you do for the company. How hard you work on.

Ultimately the honest polite words always work in great. We need no harsh talks.

Are you going to try this? We love to hear how you went through it!!
