What memories make you nostalgic?

Relationship

While sipping my milk tea, one particular quote from one of my favorite writers on Facebook gave me a chance to go through my long-buried memory lane. The writing asked me what memories make me nostalgic. I crept into my den of memory. What I could see was amazing.

The days all my family members in our sweet Home in Sri Lanka, mother busy with cooking hot dishes with various delicious things. Father busy with some work with his shop or gluded in to the newspaper. Both sister and brother in their work in their rooms. Every moment is cozy. Jokes fights all in one place.LOL!!
Every school vacation we climb some hill nearby or go along the stream which flows in our garden. Mother prepares lunch packets and we start the journey. We draw insects, flies we see and sometimes catch fish. And back to home with what we found out.

Some afternoons we had games including hide and seek. In vacations, cricket matches in the garden or badminton. In April New Year the great month, mother prepares foods and sweetmeats. My father’s brother who is now resting in peace makes “Onchilla”. It is something like a seat suspended by ropes on which one can sit and swing back and forth. What pleasant memories.

On new year day, we cook rice, dhal, and some curries in our small clay pots. Memories never fade away. On Wesak Poya Day light up clay lamps on the concrete fence around the home. Christmas day is the next best moment of our lives. For my Christmas memories, click here.

My sister and I set the sofa cozy with pillows and blankets and get ready to watch movies till midnight secretly. The memories of our movie nights burst me with tears even today. How watchful were the two of us!! LoL!! If we feel father is awaking we reduce the volume to zero and just watch the moving figures. LoL!! How fun was it!! We were more watchful than detectives.

Along with nice memories, the sudden death of my loving Grandma (Mother’s mother) was a great shock. I was about to sit my advanced-level exam. My loku amma’s cremation (father’s mother) was also a day before my sister’s wedding. All were sudden shocks.

Sometimes words cannot express the real feelings we have about our past. The way how we suffer with our little minds is unbelievable sometimes. But these memories are a great shield for our unhappiness the most of time. And some memories are not so!! But that is the life. It is a blend of all!! But the memories altogether either cheer you up or motivate you to stand up.

So to my wise gang with love, How about yours? what memories make you nostalgic? Love to hear all the happy and unhappy things.
